This summer while travelling in Ontario we discovered the Pakayak kayak line at Ottawa Valley Air Paddle in beautiful Arnprior on the Ottawa River. They looked great and felt it would be a good kayaking option for us. So we put our cash down and ordered one.
These “packable” kayaks are “some assembly required” as they are modular and comes in sections that clamp together. A unique design that makes the transport and storage of a kayak much more manageable. Transporting and storage can be a challenge for some. Getting a kayak up on a car or truck roof can be tough and not everyone has the space to store a 14 foot kayak when not in use.
Our 14 foot Bluefin model is made of high impact plastic and the sections feature a sturdy rubber gasket and aluminum clamps that create a tight seal. It went together and came apart with ease and zero leaks after going over some rocks and in rough water. It is very well engineered.
We assembled ours on a stormy fall day and took it for a shake down run. Looking forward to continuing the Exploring Newfoundland in Small Boats when the ice is off the ponds in the spring.
